Destiny's Prison of Elders Reveal: How to Survive Prison

For all you guardians out there who are hungering for a challenge, you’re going to get one. Today Bungie revealed the House of Wolves content, The Prison of Elders. Let me tell you, it looked incredible. I am no longer disappointed there will be no raid because this looks ten million times more challenging and interesting. Also because Crota’s End was way too easy and the fun wore out quickly. Anyways, after watching the stream I have developed some tips and things you can expect from the prison.

Prison? I don’t want to go to prison:

  • Too bad. The prison is a horde/wave game type. There are 5 waves to get through and you must survive 3 rounds every wave to move onto the next wave.
  • Kill all of the enemies to advance to the next round.
  • The Prison will allow you and two other friends or random’s (its matchmaking! YES!) To fight against the hordes of the enemies of the reef!
  • Yes the prison houses all of the 4 types of enemies (Cabal, Hive, Fallen, and Vex).  They also all have their own specific areas and map styles.
  • The prison will be an endgame event. The arena portion requires you to be level 28 light.
  • You can run the arena part of the prison as many times you would like throughout the week
  • There are 3 separate challenges modes that you may choose from. The higher the risk, the better the rewards.
  • The 3 challenge modes will have different level difficulty, there is a 32 light challenge, 34 light challenge, and a 35 light challenge.
  • Each challenge will have a different boss at the end, and as usual the weekly reset will rotate in new or similar bosses into the mix.
  • Just like any other endgame event, every week it will reset and will return different from the last.

Modifiers that kick-butt! But also kicks yours:

  • Every round will have a different modifier in your favor or not in your favor.
  • Matt Sammons the Prison of Elders designer said that the amount of modifiers there will be is in the ball park of about 20.

Awesome new toy:

  • There is a new relic that might drop in the second wave of a round. It is called the “scorch cannon” and unleashes a flaming rocket of death at your enemies.  It has 10 shots so make them count!
  • You can hold down the fire button to cook the rocket inside the cannon and unleash it onto your enemies. It will stick to them and create a huge fiery explosion of death. Kind of looks like sunsinger fusion grenades.
  • Don’t worry if the scorch cannon doesn’t drop heavy ammo will replace its spot somewhere randomly on the map.
  • You will know when these two gifts are coming when “Varix” your prison guide, will begin to speak and on the bottom right corner of your screen there will be a message that will say a gift is coming.

Objectives, just to make things harder:

  • In the prison there will be “critical objectives” that you must complete such as eliminate the target, and diffuse splinter mines.
  • You must kill the target before he reaches his destination in the prison.
  • You must defuse the mines by stepping into the circle around the mine that is similar to a control circle in the crucible. The more people in the circle, the faster it is diffused.
  • If you do not complete these objection you will wipe. The warden will punish you.

Well, guardians! There you have it. This is what I could muster up from the stream today and I hope you are just excited as I am. Don’t forget the Prison of Elders will be released on May 19th, I will see you all there. Let me know if anyone has anything to add or has any questions about the upcoming expansion. Thanks!

Just in case you can’t find the stream the videos are below. Enjoy!
